End of Year Update: 2022
What we’ve learned, what we’ve done & what’s the plan for 2023
As this exciting, and definitely eventful year comes to an end, we at Rogues have done a lot, learned a lot, and have a lot to come in 2023. This article will unpack it all and summarise everything you need to know.
What we’ve done
RFG was brand new at the beginning of 2022, so pretty much everything we have right now happened in the very same year. It’s definitely difficult to summarize all that happened in this period, so below are our key achievements, in somewhat of a chronological order
Jan — Mar 2022
- Created our amazing community!
- Created the Genesis NFT collection of 10,000 foxiz (Q1 2022)
- Received grant from Polygon
- Completed & Sold out Genesis Mints 1, 2 & 3 (Jan, Feb & Mar)
- Launched NFT Avatar viewer on our website to allow holders to preview their fox NFT in full body as it will be views in-game
- Created game trailer no.1 (although we later moved on from that idea)
- Many web3 partnerships!
Apr — Jun 2022
- Created our game items smart contract
- Completed our 1st NFT airdrop of 10 foxy scrolls, also game items
- Sold out Genesis Mint 4 (Jun)
- Completed 2nd NFT game items airdrop batch: tropical shirt & punk shirt
- Founding team spoke at many events & conferences
Jul — Sep 2022
- Launched Alpha of the Rogues game!
- Conducted 5 x Alpha gaming sessions with the community (Alphas 0.1, 0.2, 0.3.1, 0.3.2, 0.3.3)
- Completed our 1st Free Mint & Airdrop of Foxy fishing rods (Sep): Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary, Ancient.
Aug — Dec 2022
- Conducted a Halloween-themed alpha gaming session with the community (Alpha 0.3.4)
- Completed our 2nd Free Mint & Airdrop of Foxy Armor items: Rare helmet, Rare body armor, Rare pants, Legendary helmet, Legendary body armor, Legendary pants.
- Sold out Genesis Mint 5 (Oct)
- Launched a Halloween drawing competition with winning design to be turned into a game item to be used in game
- Conducted a Christmas-themed alpha gaming session with the community (Alpha 0.4.2)
- Completed an airdrop for holders with Christmas items: Santa hat (all holders at the time of airdrop), Santa Beard (OGs), Rudolf Antlers (VIP Bronze Rogues with 3+ Genesis NFTs), Elf Hat (VIP Silver Rogues with 5+ Genesis NFTs, Golden Elf Hat (VIP Gold Rogues with 10+ Genesis NFTs).
- Launched a Christmas drawing competition with winning design to be turned into a game item to be used in game
- Created our Foxmas tool for the creation of a holiday greeting card
- Received blockchain grant (TBA)
What we’ve learned
As we reflect on what we’ve achieved in the past 12 months, we’ve been through both the highs and the lows of the market.
These are our top 5 key takeaways, that will help us navigate 2023 better, and get us to where we deserve to be going forward.

01. Timing is everything. We’ve learned the hard way that market conditions can determine whether something is easy or not; i.e. whether it’s easy to raise investment, or not; whether you can grow fast, or not, even whether a project succeeds, or fails. As crypto bear market came, we saw changes to how people talk, operate and think about the future. We now know how to react faster to the changing tide, and going forwards, we’ll be quicker to act when an opportunity arises.
02. Marketing is extremely important. Although we knew this one from the start, we’ve realised even more so the importance of marketing. Good product that is not seen by the people cannot succeed, whether the opposite is possible. We’ll make sure to prioritise marketing efforts in the months and years to come.
03. Hype sells NFTs, but rarely guarantees success. And by “hype”, I mean fake hype, hype without substance. Sadly, in 2022, we saw many cases where successful financial raises did not guarantee success, and the projects failed due to financial mismanagement, incapability to deliver, or other similar reasons.
04. The best way to grow in web3 is quality partnerships. We learned that, in web3, the only truly viable strategy to grow a community, is true quality partnerships. All else delivers “vanity numbers” i.e. fake followers at best, and no growth at all at worst.
05. It’s time to build quality products. The vanity metrics of play-to-end gaming are coming to a near end. What the web3 gaming industry truly needs, is quality games that deliver what players want — a fun and engaging gaming experience, much like they had in web2. This is what we’re building at Rogues, and where we excel.
Finally the time has come for the market to play to our strengths — quality gaming products. We’re super excited to begin the new year 2023 and open a new chapter with the new strategy we have developed to grow exponentially!

Marketing & partnerships
Marketing
This is the area that needs the most work, as we know how fundamental it would be to grow our community and attract players to the game.
Starting in January, we’re ready to position Rogues as the powerful brand we’ve always envisioned it to be. We’ll begin by updating the brand name across all socials, as well as improving the look and feel of all communications, including website & socials.
February will follow with a new game trailer to reflect everything we’ve done so far, and provide a sneek peek into what is to come.
Partnerships
From early 2023, we’ll launch our Partnership programme to offer other NFT collections to have extra utility in the Rogues game. This will include NFT avatar integrations with our game, with customised assets created in-game. Our goal is to get quality 5 partnerships in Q1 of 2023, and we have a strict criteria of the partners we’d be interested in working with.
Game & product
Early in the year, we will launch an in-game incentivisation strategy to allow for optimum stickiness and rewards in the Rogues game.
We will also work on smooth onboarding for attracting and easy onboarding of web 2 players as well; this will be very much needed for optimum growth. We’ll also become multi-chain in Q1 2023, as we’re partnering with additional blockchains and L2s.
And of course, we’ll continue to build and execute as per the development roadmap shared by us.
Financials
We have great news on this. We have secured multiple grants from blockchain foundations to allow us to integrate new chains and bring users from other chains. This is a strategy we’ll be exploring further, as we see multiple benefits in such an approach.
With the amazing community, solid team and our new growth-centric strategy we have, we believe we are in a great position to grow exponentially in 2023. In this bear market, we are stronger than ever.
